Where do our search results come from?

You are correct that most search engines do rely on Google or Bing's indexes. We use a combination of sources to provide search results. Our news search and news feed is 100% independent and owned by Freespoke. Our general web search results are largely sourced from Brave, who runs one of the only independent and non Big Tech full-web search indexes in the world. We combine Brave's results with our own content in certain cases to provide fuller context on certain searches, and one of our goals this year is to continue to improve this to show a broader range of independent and non-mainstream results. We do use Bing for certain features, specifically for video and image search, though we try to correct for certain things which we don't like about their ranking. We are actively working to move away from Bing for these remaining features, and our long-term goal is to provide a completely independent search index.
